Point Loma Association Newsletter - editing and graphic design

Point Loma Association Newsletter - editing and graphic design

For over 11 years, I edited the Point Loma Association newsletter, a quarterly piece focused on the good works of the Point Loma Association, and on the Point Loma community. The newsletter became “whatever Kerri wanted to write about.” In addition to gathering news from board members, committee leaders, and other organizations, I highlighted PLA projects, community stakeholders, issues affecting the Point Loma community, and included an “Around Town” column and calendar, where I featured new businesses and upcoming events. I was editor and graphic designer, as I laid out the entire piece using Adobe InDesign.

I got a more personalized tour from the plant operator, and shared my experiences with members of the Point Loma Association. The article was a hit: I got requests from members to share it with their friends, coworkers, and clients.

These two samples show my approach to editing: 1) Saying more with less, and in terms the reader can understand; 2) putting myself into the role of the audience by asking questions and pointing out passages that are unclear or misleading.
